The inevitable lists of things to do gets a few things knocked off and a few things added. Both Tom and I are waking up in the middle of the night with 'one more thing to do', or don't forget to......etc!
Last night, or early this morning, I awoke at 4:30 thinking about making our departure/ arrival check list for the 5th wheel and truck. I don't even want to think about forgetting to unhook or not hook up something! We had similar lists for getting off of the dock, and it sure makes the process easier. We have seldom had the 'did we forget to turn off the lights? unplug the iron? close the garage door?' moments!
So we're down to less than 2 weeks before our target departure. The kayaks need to be mounted on the roof, and the roof needs to coated with rubber coating. This rig has been in Baja for several years, and things do tend to dry out in the desert! Most of our personal items are stored, but now they need to be made road ready: glasses and dishes protected and items on shelves secured. The shower/tub has had the old caulking removed. New 'goo' will go on tomorrow. The marina's hot water system in the bathrooms, seems to be only capable of luke-warm water, at best, so I'm going to make sure I can use my own shower. And we'll want it done for when we don't have a land shower to use. We have installed the new outdoor shower, but I don't think we'll be using that in the northern latitudes for a few months!
We're wrapping up things here in the store, and sorting through the last bit of paper and accountings to make sure our hand off is complete and correct.
And finally, there are the goodbyes. I really don't like this part. Over the years we've watched our friends sail off to new adventures and distant shores. While the goodbyes are hard, at least this time we're the ones doing the leaving for the adventure. On that note, if I'm going to get through my list of things to do and say my goodbyes, I best get back to work!
