Cairns, Australia - Kuranda Park - the train

We found a way to tie some birding into some other touristy things so that Tom could join us in Cairns.  Since this tourist attraction is done in three parts, so will this blog.

Not far from our RV park is the Kuranda train station. This train does a 1.5 hour ride up into the rainforest to the small village of Kuranda.

It passes through several communities along the way before quickly heading up into the nearby mountains and forest.

The trip takes about 90 minutes and does a couple of photo slow downs as well as a quick ten minute break for a look over the Barron Falls.

The train crosses over 50 some bridges and goes through 17 tunnels on its way to the top.
One of the many bridges/ trestles we crossed.
The largest one over Scott Creek.

Scott Creek.

The 10 minute stop for photos of Barron Gorge.
6 weeks ago they had so much water over the falls the rocks weren't visible.
And Gordie poses for a photo with the family!
