According to the folks who have been here for many spring seasons, the desert and it's plants are experiencing a 'superbloom'.

Evidently all the conditions have been perfect. Some rain, actually lots of it, cooler temps, and let's not forget some late snow and freezing conditions, can make the wildflowers come out and shine!

I was out over the past few days and captured these lovely shots.

We're heading north towards Phoenix and Scottsdale for a night, and plan to take the backroads. We'll be on the lookout for some more colorful scenes.

A bunnies view of the poppies! According to my plant book, the flowers are Scorpion weed, Arizona Lupine, Chia, Mexican gold, Desert Gold and Mohave poppy, Desert Globe mallow, Sahara Mustard and Gordon's Bladderwort - at least I think thats what's in these images! |
