Welcome to Beyond the Big Left Turn.  An informative and fun site that will capture the adventures and stories of Jeanne and Tom as they begin to travel on land and air after many years of life on a sailboat, hence, Beyond the Big Left Turn.

Most of the adventures - good and bad can be read on the previous blog, Eagle's Big Left Turn. To view the previous blog click on Eagle's old blog. The Big Left Turn was the name we gave to our voyage from Des Moines, Washington to Mexico.  To start this trip, one heads north up Puget Sound, making a Big Left Turn into the Straight of Juan de Fuca, then another Big Left Turn to head south down the western United States, then another Big Left Turn into the Sea of Cortez in Mexico. Unfortunately, the photos may no longer being supported by the hosting company, so you may or may not be able to view our images there. We plan to have many more fun images for you to view here instead.

It seems only fitting that I get this blog up and running this week.  The new owner of Eagle, our beloved 36' Freeport Islander, and home for the past 18years, is getting her ready to head to distant ports on Sunday.  At the same time, we are preparing to leave the beautiful city of La Paz, Baja California Sur in just a few weeks.

This past year, we made the big decision to try land travel for a while.  We found, here in Baja, both a Ford F350 truck with incredibly low miles, that way exceeded our expectations, and a 32ft fifth wheel that fit exactly what we were looking for.  The correct paperwork was exchanged and everyone is happy with their sales and purchases.

Shortly after our purchase of the 5th wheel, "Eagle's Nest", we learned that my Mom wasn't well and before we really had a chance to grasp what was happening, she was gone.  This unfortunate but inevitable life event, pushed us into looking at our future plans.  We decided that once again it was time to "get off of the dock", to use nautical lingo!

We will be departing La Paz about the  first of February and heading north - destination Seattle.

I'm still in shock that we are going to the Pacific Northwest in winter!  But, there's a bonus.

Once in Seattle, we will decommission the trailer, and place it in storage, gather our cameras and some clothes and my Dad.  The three of us will then embark on an around the world trip the end of February.  The countries on this trip list include New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, Qatar, Scotland and England, and involves airplanes, rental RV's and autos.
