Wyoming - Yellowstone National Park - Day 2
The iconic animal of the park, or one of them is the American Bison. The count on the bison is in the 2500- 3500 range.
Some of the early art of the park, from the 1800's shows what looks like swarms of them on the hills and low lands.
While we did see a few areas where a couple of hundred had gathered together, a lone one or a couple was more common. This individual was off to the side of a pull-out that we were checking out. He just kept coming closer and closer -- see the top photo!
Fall is the time of year for the elk to be in rut and do their bugling. We expected or anticipated to see large herds of them. Not so much. We spent 3 nights in an RV park in West Yellowstone as all the campgrounds within the park were full. We moved to Gardiner at the north entrance for easier access to some of the northern roads and areas for more animals and some easier sunrise locations.
