Costa Rica - Bijagua - one more attempt

Before we left the park last night, we made tentative plans to give it one more try for a hike in the mountains at the Heliconias Skybridge park in Bijagua.

We woke to cloudy but dry skies, at least for now, so it was looking promising.  Abner was ready to take us on a tour, so with rain gear along, we headed into the forest.

We spent two hours hiking around in the very dark forest. I've been very frustrated with how dark it is here. Even though we're just a few degrees from the equator, the dark green of the entire country just sucks up the light. In photography speak, we're using much higher ISO's than ever before and sometimes thats still not enough to get a decent shutter speed or exposure.  I've started to carry my external flash around with me just to get my subject sharp and clear!

The sky bridges were constructed by Abners family.  There are three skybridge that cross back and forth across the valley.  It's not quite a 'canopy' tour, but it's pretty close!

Birding- serious stuff

Abner and Tom spotted  38 species of birds, and I had fun just looking at the rain forest and a few plants and the insects.

After hiking with Abner, checking off the birds in the book, we said our goodbyes and headed south to Tarlcoles.
