Costa Rica - Quizarra

Quizarra is a small community with lots of farming and coffee plantations.  The property we’re staying at was a coffee farm years ago. The owners have quite a large piece that they’ve let go back to the forest.  I’m pretty sure it doesn’t take long for the forest to reclaim the land.

After a morning of birding in the Andrew Skutch Refuge, located a couple of kilometers from our house, we headed off towards the hills and the clouds.

In this area, one can expect rain every afternoon usually around 2pm.   Yesterday it started at 12 and didn’t stop until late in the night.  With as much rain as we saw yesterday we’d expected the roads and trails to be a muddy mess.  This country handles the wet very well.  While not dry, the roads showed no signs of last night’s couple inches of rain.

The views from Las Nubes road were spectacular.  You, too, can own one of the lots up here!

Living up here in the clouds, you’d be one of the first to get the rain.  It’s warm rain, but it’s still rain!

We made it back to the house today just as it was starting to rain.  Naps are in order after a 4 hours hike.
