Trinidad Colorado to Tucumcari NM via Texas!
The rapid travel portion of our trip is coming to an end. We’re tired of the daily travel and need some down time. We’ve decided to spend a couple of days at the Albuquerque Balloon festival so now we have some time to ‘kill’ before we head there on the opening weekend, October 5.
After doing some research on RV parks and where to go, we opted to head east and spend a couple of nights in Dalhart Texas. Why not add one more state to this years travel? We also decided to spend several nights in Tucumcari New Mexico, a town on the original Route 66. In charting the course, the most direct route was to Dalhart, then back to NM.
So off we went on Highway 25, which got us to 85 which took us right into Dalhart, 128 miles away. An easy 2+ hour run. We were happy to have another uneventful day and celebrated by doing our laundry!
We also passed through the ‘village’ of Des Moines. Quite a bit different elevation from the Des Moines we sailed away from years ago!
We did go explore the area, again looking for birds. While Tom was off seeking feathered friends, I was finding insects and other critters.

This butterfly is normally quite ‘alert’ according to the reference book. However, since it was quite cold when I found him, I’m guessing it was needing to warm up. An hour or so in the window of the truck and it was ready to go back outside.
I wonder, are the clients ‘happy’ as well?
Heading back on the highway it was another straight shot to Tucumcari, 128 miles away.
