Moab-kayaking the Colorado river- final day

With kayaks on the truck, and wanting to use them in every state, we asked at several river outfitters about the best place for getting our kayaks wet.

We were directed to a spot 6 miles up river from the town bridge. We checked it out and determined it to be a good launch spot.

With a plan in place, we gathered our gear and headed to the put in.

At 7:30 am, it appeared we were the only ones on the river! Because we were on a river with a few 'rapids', we left the big cameras behind.

Four miles into our journey, we pulled out at a sandy island for a leg stretch.  When we got back in, the light breeze we had had amped up to a blustery 20-25 with some higher gusts. It was a bit of tough going at times, but we watched the wind on the trees at riverside and could see when the gusts would get to us.  We stayed put, paddling all the while, then paddled like crazy when it let up.  Little by little we made headway.

There were times we were being blown UP river against a 4-5 knot current. 2 miles later, we made the pull out, tired and windblown-but dry! That is until a kind river guide tried to help me maneuver my kayak to get out.... It, and I leaned against the current and the ramp only to fill the boat up! Gotta love quick dry clothes!

As is the norm here, Tom, wearing his PFD, crossed the bridge and hitched a ride with a river guide, back to our truck and back to me.

Another adventure, as we say, one we lived to tell!
