Invercargill - Bluff New Zealand
Bluff is 27k from the town of Invercargill, which we just passed through on our way from Te Anu. Bluff is known for it's oysters, rather large ones, but considered a real treat. Unfortunately for Gordie, the market had sold out the day we stopped for provisions!
The whole point of going to Bluff was to catch the Stewart Island ferry. Stewart Island has become a reserve that has no predators to protect and revive some of the bird populations. There are no stoats, rats, mice, cats, or any other predator. This is a bird lovers paradise. Tom ended up going as the ferry was super expensive, and all of the accommodations were booked. He got the last room and a late afternoon ferry.
Dad and I stayed behind and experienced 40-50kt winds and squall after squall for 24 hours. Yee - haw! There were times during the night when I thought I was back on the boat and in a chubasco!
We managed to catch a big window between systems to walk to the Stirling point sign post. This is the 'end of the world'.
I can see why it's such a popular spot. What a view from here, and you can drive right to it.
and of course I have to do the tourist shot!
