Scotland - Gairloch to Ullapool
It's pretty hard to describe the country side in Scotland. It's wild, rugged, windblown, rocky, craggy, and just when you can't think of another 'rough adjective' at 11:30 at night... you drive around a corner and come across a sandy white beach, like this one!
That has to be one of my big surprises here. I never expected to see beaches like we've seen.
There have been some rocky shorelines, for sure, and they are stunning, but with the weather that we've had while here, the beaches are amazing.
Speaking weather... Scotland and England have not seen dry weather like this since 1971! The locals are all complaining that it's 'too hot!"
With the hot daytime weather, we've seen some morning fog, dense in some places, and wispy like here.
One travels past many different views along each way you drive....
This is Knockan Crag, a very distant hill with lots of geological significance that I'll spare you the details of!
And then you'll come to an amazing gorge, that is 140 feet deep!
Since this is Scotland, and everything here is old, there are castles, or what's left of them and old stone buildings everywhere!
And then we arrive in the charming town of Ullapool, a local happening spot in 'Wester Ross'.
Since it was another lovely day, and our campsite was a 2 block walk to town, and we were desiring an adult beverage, we found just the place!
I was very happy with my "Mango Tango", a mango smoothie with a shot of spiced rum, and Lefty went for the bottom of Tom's beer!
