Wales/ England Conwy to Kenilworth

This pretty bridge is the main road from Conwy to parts south.  I had directed us on a smaller road for this leg as I was tired of the 3 lanes of the A5 and other motorways.  Thinking we could just go a bit slower and enjoy the scenery, we came across this town and crossed the bridge before realizing just what it looked like!

Our trip from Conwy to Kenilworth, to visit friends who used to live near my office in Seattle, was just a point A to Point B trip, until I looked at what to do along the way and found a couple of really interesting pieces of architecture.  This bridge in the small village of Brewts y Coed (Welsh, and I'm not sure what it means) I thought was pretty nice.... and then we discovered this one a bit further down the road!

This is the Cefn Railroad bridge built over the River Dee.  Quite impressive, no?

It's made up of 19 archways all out of stone and brick over 60' spans, stands 147' high and is 1508 feet long. and was built in 1866.

 But wait!   There's more.....

And even more impressive, located one mile away is the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct!

This aqueduct was built between 1795 and 1808 to connect a series of canals to transport goods and people through an area that had no other transportation.

It stands 126 feet tall over the River Dee and also has 19 arches.
we walked to the other side of the valley on the canal platform, about 3 feet wide.  I would have kayaked across, and was really glad to see this couple kneeling on their SUP boards!  It's a long way down!
