Darwin Australia - Litchfield National Park- Termite Mounds
We had planned for a whole day in Litchfield National Park on the last full day in Darwin. The travel guides all promised lots to see and do, and they were right.
Throughout the trip we've seen some pretty impressive termite mounds along the sides of the road and in the nearby fields.
One we just had to stop for as it was huge and right there!
And just to show you some size and scale, Lefty jumped in to help!
These first two of reddish color were found on the west side of Kakadu park.
About 26km inside Litchfield National park on the east side, and south of Darwin by 100km is a whole field of magnetic termite mounds.
These are quite flat and the orientation is north and south to keep the nest cool.
And here are the little guys responsible for all of them.
