Melbourne Australia - Day 2

We only planned for 2 full days in Melbourne.  Not much time, but, also, too much time.  Our speed is definitely, more open space, country lane speed!

We had several opportunities to ask Melbourners     (Melbournites?) “what would you do or show guests visiting your city?”  Every single one we asked came back with the answer, “Eat, drink, socialize, see a cultural event…”  No one could list the ‘must do’ activities or sights in the city!   So, after studying the map, Dad and I choose to get on a small passenger only ferry and explore the Yarra River, which runs through the town, and a bit of the harbor beyond.

It was a good choice. A couple of hours on the water to see the city from a boat is always a good thing.  We choose a 50 - minute one-way ride and stayed on for the return.  We were the only 2 on the return, so we had our own private boat going back to the city.

The Yarra River has many bridges, many which were built in the 1800’s, and are VERY low.  Departing at high tide required the passengers who were sitting outside on the stern to duck their heads to make sure there was clearance!  It was a bit of an exaggeration, but not by much!

a slinky pedestrian bridge!

Our day ended with more wandering through the city then back to our apartment for packing and an early trip to the airport… ULURU… here we come!  I can’t wait!
