Darwin - Kakadu National Park - Yellow River Billabong
Dawn breaks very quietly on the Yellow Water Billabong. The weather was a bit cool this morning, enough that a light mist was lifting from the water.
When trying to plan our destinations, campsites and activities, I've tried to ask people we've met along the way. The communal kitchens always seem to be a good source of current info.
Over and over we heard 'you must take the Yellow Water billabong trip'. So, Tom and I signed up for one more dawn cruise. How different can they be?
Well, this billabong is huge! The birds and other wildlife were also plentiful.
In the top photo you can see one of the other tour boats off in the distance. The water has receded quite a bit, but there is still a lot - all over the entire area.
Trevor, our guide and driver did an excellent job of explains about the Aboriginal or 'blackfellas' ways and customs. He was also very knowledgable about the animals and birds.
A morning crocodile spotting... this guy is about 8 feet!
Sunrise through the smoke from the local burns.
I was attracted to this scene due to the mirror image. When I was editing the photos, I thought it looked like a large, open mouth crocodile!
A male Jacana and 2 of his 3 juvenile kids walking on the weeds and lily pads.

Check out the size of the feet!
We spotted a water buffalo. A nice precursor to our Africa leg of the trip.
Dawn breaks across the billabong.
